Regulations Clarify Patient Protection Provisions of Health Reform Legislation
The U.S. Departments of Labor, Treasury, and Health and Human Services released interim final regulations (the “Regulations”) regarding certain provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”). The new rules provide much needed clarification on preexisting condition exclusions, lifetime and annual benefit limitations, rescissions of coverage, and other patient protections under PPACA. Aside from the patient protections, grandfathered plans will be required to comply with the new rules. This News Brief highlights some of the major provisions in the Regulations as they apply to employer-sponsored group health plans.
