Elizabeth A. Hafey Named BBJ “40 Under 40” Honoree
Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that Elizabeth A. Hafey, a litigator in the law firm’s Products Liability and Mass Torts Practice Group and the medical malpractice group within it, has been chosen by the Baltimore Business Journal for its 2016 “40 Under 40” list, which honors professionals under the age of 40 in the Greater Baltimore area who are excelling in their fields and engaging with the community.
“Elizabeth is a ‘stand out’ lawyer, community leader and mentor,” said John B. Frisch, chairman and chief executive officer of Miles & Stockbridge. “She does much for our Baltimore community in truly meaningful leadership roles.”
Hafey and the other honorees were selected by the Baltimore Business Journal’s editorial team from more than 300 nominations. They will be honored at an event on November 3 at Port Discovery Children’s Museum and featured in a special publication inserted in the November 11 issue of the Baltimore Business Journal.
About Elizabeth Hafey
Hafey defends doctors, hospitals, and other health care professionals and entities in medical malpractice cases. She also represents manufacturers and other businesses in a variety of complex liability matters.
Hafey was appointed in May to the Maryland Health Care Commission as a commissioner by Governor Lawrence J. Hogan, Jr. As a commissioner, she is on the forefront of the state’s changing healthcare system and is working to ensure accountability and affordability. She previously served as a commissioner on the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore City.
Since 2014, she has served on the board of directors for the Pratt Contemporaries, described by the organization as a group of emerging creative thinkers who want to establish a lifeline between their library, their city and their communities. In addition, she is co-chairing the Black and White Party in January 2017 to raise money for the Enoch Pratt Free Library, renovations and its child and teen literacy services.
She is an elected member of the board for the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Bar Association of Baltimore City (BABC) and also serves as an elected member of the larger BABC board and its Executive Council. In an effort to engage other young professionals, Hafey also chairs the membership committee of the YLD, which includes planning networking events, engaging law students and younger lawyers, and reaching out to diverse professionals.
A 2015-2016 graduate of the Maryland State Bar Association’s (MSBA) Leadership Academy, Elizabeth is a now a Fellow of the MSBA’s Maryland Bar Foundation and serves on the MSBA’s judicial nominating committee.
In 2015, she earned the Monumental City Bar Association’s Young Lawyers/Future History Maker Award. She also recently joined the Associate Leadership Council of Junior Achievement of Central Maryland to help carry out its mission toward entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy for local K-12 students.
